Jack Eichel has yet to agree to a contract extension with the Vegas Golden Knights, sparking growing speculation about his future.
While many believe a deal with Vegas will eventually be finalized, there’s increasing chatter about potential alternatives if things don’t progress. One such possibility involves the New York Rangers, who are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation.
“I think teams around the league expect it to get done,” ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reported. “I haven’t heard anything suggesting Eichel doesn’t want to stay, so my assumption is that a deal will be reached this summer. But if he suddenly decides he’d prefer to play on the East Coast or isn’t ready to commit just yet, the Rangers — along with the Boston Bruins — would likely be among the top teams he’d consider.”
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Vegas is already exploring what an Eichel extension might entail, and it could potentially surpass Mitch Marner’s new eight-year, \$96 million deal.
Meanwhile, the Rangers appear set to move forward with Mika Zibanejad for the 2025–26 season, as speculation surrounding his future dies down. The franchise is expected to pursue marquee names in the 2026 offseason — with Eichel possibly on their radar if he becomes available.
