Rangers could be set for a major lift on the eve of their crucial Champions League clash with Club Brugge, thanks to fresh transfer developments in Belgium.
Russell Martin’s men may have edged past Alloa in the League Cup at the weekend, but the performance was far from convincing. Despite making ten new signings this summer, the Gers are still some way off hitting the levels their manager demands – and overcoming Brugge at Ibrox will be no easy task.
But Martin’s preparations have been handed a timely boost. Reports in Belgium claim Crystal Palace have made a move for Christos Tzolis, Brugge’s talisman and arguably their most dangerous player.
The 23-year-old Greek international has been sensational since his arrival, racking up 21 goals and 15 assists last season, before starting this campaign with three goals and two assists in just seven outings. With an Estimated Transfer Value of €25.8m, he’s one of Brugge’s most prized assets – second only to defender Joel Ordonez.
Palace view Tzolis as the ideal replacement for Eberechi Eze, who is edging closer to a big-money switch to Tottenham. Losing him now would be a hammer blow for Brugge ahead of their trip to Glasgow, though even the speculation is likely to prove a distraction.
For Rangers, any uncertainty in the Belgian camp can only play in their favour as they gear up for Tuesday night’s blockbuster at Ibrox.
