Mathews, 29, played college baseball at Georgetown and Temple before spending three seasons as a pitcher in the Los Angeles Angels’ system. He transitioned into coaching in 2021 and has been with the Reds organization ever since, serving as the assistant coordinator of rehabilitation and pitching initiatives for the past two seasons.
