As January passes its halfway mark, college campuses are coming back to life with the start of classes, and that signals one major event for college football: early enrollees from the Class of 2025 are arriving on campus.
This past weekend, Virginia Tech welcomed several members of its 2025 recruiting class as they moved in ahead of the spring semester. With spring practices just around the corner, excitement is building. On Monday, Virginia Tech announced that their annual spring game is scheduled for April 12 at Lane Stadium.
Head coach Brent Pry has assembled another impressive recruiting class for 2025, exceeding expectations against programs nationwide. According to 247Sports, the Hokies’ class ranks highly among ACC schools and nationally.

The latest 247Sports rankings place Virginia Tech’s 2025 class at No. 7 in the ACC and No. 36 nationally. The Hokies bolstered their class in December with a key late addition during the early signing period when Jahmari DeLoatch flipped his commitment from Cincinnati to Virginia Tech.
The class also features standout four-star recruits, including running back Jeff Overton, who is expected to contribute as early as 2025, and wide receiver Shamarius Peterkin from Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In the ACC rankings, Virginia Tech trails Miami, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Clemson, SMU, and Duke. The class did experience one loss, as wide receiver Matthew Outten flipped his commitment to Penn State last September.
Coach Pry has emphasized recruiting in-state talent since his hiring four years ago, and the results are evident. Twelve of the Hokies’ 20 commits in the Class of 2025 hail from Virginia, further solidifying the program’s focus on retaining top local talent.
