The White Sox continue to bolster their roster with experienced players. Yesterday, they reached an agreement with one-year, $5 million contract, which includes a $10 million mutual option for 2026 or a $1.5 million buyout.
Pérez posted a 5-6 record with a 4.53 ERA last season, playing for both the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres. In 26 appearances, he registered a 1.48 WHIP and struck out 107 batters across 135 innings. He was more effective after joining the Padres, finishing with a 3-1 record and a 3.46 ERA in 10 starts. His 0.9 WAR last year would have ranked fifth among the White Sox’s starting pitchers for 2024.
Over his 13-year career, Pérez holds a 90-87 record with a 4.44 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He made an All-Star appearance with the Texas Rangers in 2022, marking his best season, and was part of the World Series-winning team in 2023. He is expected to slot into the starting rotation and provide valuable veteran leadership for the White Sox’s young pitchers.

Pérez primarily relies on his sinker, circle changeup, cutter, and curveball, with occasional use of a four-seam fastball that peaks at 92 mph and rarely throwing an 82 mph slider. His sinker, however, is his go-to pitch, generating a lot of ground balls—hopefully, the White Sox’s improved defense will be ready to handle them.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio for assignment. The 29-year-old, who was claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees in late September, didn’t get much of a chance to showcase his skills with Chicago. He finished the season with a 1-0 record and a 3.86 ERA in 16 relief appearances for the Yankees.
