WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark is reportedly dealing with a leg injury, according to an announcement from her team on Friday.
The Indiana Fever have listed Clark as questionable for Saturday’s preseason opener due to the issue. No additional information about her condition has been provided at this time.
During her rookie season, Clark posted averages of 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game. She led all rookies in scoring and topped the WNBA in assists per game, playing a key role in ending the Fever’s eight-year playoff drought.
Beyond her value to the team, Clark has become a cornerstone for the league and the sport’s growing visibility. Her presence turned the Fever into the most-watched team in the WNBA, with all 14 of the league’s most-viewed games featuring Indiana. She also set a new record for most All-Star votes received in league history.
On September 1, 2024, the Fever’s matchup with the Minnesota Lynx attracted 1.26 million TV viewers, despite airing opposite a Week 1 NFL game between the Eagles and Packers.
Clark’s final regular-season game on Sept. 19 against the Washington Mystics drew 20,711 fans to Capital One Arena—the highest attendance ever for a WNBA regular-season game.
Her playoff debut against the Connecticut Sun on Sept. 22 set another milestone, attracting 1.84 million viewers on ABC—even while competing with NFL programming. Game 2 drew even more attention, hitting a record 2.54 million viewers.
However, once the Fever’s playoff run ended, WNBA viewership saw a sharp decline. The semifinal opener between the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty—featuring two of the league’s premier teams and a rematch of the previous year’s finals—drew just 929,000 viewers, a 50% drop compared to the Fever’s playoff opener.
