The Boston Red Sox were initially rumored to be strong contenders in the pursuit of Alex Bregman. However, those rumors have cooled in recent weeks, prompting Boston to explore alternative options to make their offseason impactful.
Cody Williams of FanSided speculated that the Red Sox might target Minnesota Twins infielder Carlos Correa in a blockbuster trade if they miss out on Bregman. Williams referenced a report by Minnesota insider Darren Wolfson, who mentioned Boston’s expressed interest in Correa. The connection between Correa and Red Sox manager Alex Cora, stemming from their time together in Houston, adds weight to the speculation. Correa could fit into the lineup by shifting to second base or allowing Trevor Story to take that spot while Correa plays shortstop.
Additionally, the Twins might have a financial incentive to trade Correa, as they aim to reduce payroll. A potential deal could involve swapping Correa for Masataka Yoshida. While Yoshida’s contract is costly, it’s smaller and shorter in duration compared to Correa’s, offering the Twins some financial relief. Meanwhile, Boston would assume more salary but acquire a high-impact player they covet.
If the Twins are indeed open to moving Correa, a trade like this appears to be a logical solution for both sides.
