BREAKING: Rising Five-star QB put new twist in Oregon-Oregon State rivalry

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has landed a commitment from a high-profile quarterback prospect—and his name is sure to raise eyebrows among Ducks fans, especially during the annual rivalry game against Oregon State. Bryson Beaver, a five-star quarterback in the 2026 class, has pledged to the Ducks, boosting Oregon’s recruiting class to No. 29 nationally in the latest 247Sports team rankings.

Ironically, Beaver never received an offer from Oregon State, despite the shared name with the school’s mascot. He committed to Oregon after decommitting from Boise State on June 12. In the wake of that decision, he attracted offers from several top programs, including Alabama, Ole Miss, Colorado, LSU, and Auburn.

If he honors his commitment and eventually starts for Oregon, Beaver could one day face the Beavers in Oregon’s fierce in-state rivalry. Although the Ducks left the Pac-12, both schools agreed to continue their football series for at least two more years. The 2025 game in Eugene is the last scheduled matchup for now, but leadership from both universities has expressed interest in preserving the tradition.

Beaver’s stellar performance at the Elite 11 Finals helped elevate his status to four-star status. He jumped from an initial 84 grade to a 90 rating, becoming one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in the 2026 cycle. According to 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins, Beaver shined in 7-on-7 competition at the Elite 11, completing 18 of 26 passes for 235 yards and five touchdowns with zero interceptions. He finished the event ranked sixth overall among Elite 11 participants.

Meet Oregon Football's 2026 class: Four-star QB Bryson Beaver commits to the Ducks

A standout at Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta, California, Beaver enjoyed a breakout junior campaign. He completed 229 of 345 passes for 3,214 yards and 33 touchdowns, adding 411 rushing yards and two scores on 58 carries.

Per 247Sports’ Matt Prehm, Beaver is expected to be the only quarterback Oregon signs in its 2026 class. The Ducks previously secured four-star QB Akili Smith Jr.—the son of former Oregon star Akili Smith—for the 2025 class. They also signed Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele, the No. 5 QB in the class, though he transferred out of the program before spring practice began.
