Rylan Griffen, who began his college career with two seasons in the Southeastern Conference, is set to return to the SEC after a year in the Big 12. The former Alabama and Kansas guard has committed to Texas A\&M via the NCAA Transfer Portal, as reported by On3’s Joe Tipton on Friday night.
Griffen had been in the portal for over a month, considering offers from Alabama, Kentucky, and Miami before ultimately choosing the Aggies. He just completed his third collegiate season—two at Alabama and one at Kansas—appearing in 106 games, starting 53 of them. Over his career, he has averaged 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, with his best season coming at Alabama during their Final Four run, where he posted 11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists on 45.4% shooting and 39.2% from three. His production dipped this past season at Kansas, averaging 6.3 points on 37.2% shooting.
A native of Dallas and a former four-star recruit from Richardson High School, Griffen was ranked No. 44 nationally and among the top five shooting guards in the 2022 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
This marks Griffen’s second transfer in as many years. He was recently ranked No. 116 overall and No. 30 among shooting guards in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings. He is one of six players to leave Kansas this offseason, and now one of two—alongside Zach Clemence—heading to Texas A\&M. Other former Jayhawks have committed to Ole Miss, Maryland, while some remain uncommitted.
Griffen joins a major roster overhaul at Texas A\&M under new head coach Bucky McMillan. The Aggies are bringing in several transfers, including Clemence, Federiko Federiko, Mackenzie Mgbako, Marcus Hill, Jamie Vinson, Josh Holloway, and Jacari Lane. This comes amid significant roster turnover following the departure of eight seniors and seven transfers after Buzz Williams’ final season.
