Improving the defense has been a key priority for the Penn State Nittany Lions this offseason, and on Friday, they took a significant step by strengthening their linebacker unit.
Four-star linebacker Terry Wiggins, a senior from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, announced his commitment to Penn State, choosing the Nittany Lions over several other programs. Wiggins becomes the sixth in-state top-11 recruit to join Penn State’s 2026 class, solidifying their dominance within the state.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 210 pounds, Wiggins will develop under the guidance of new linebackers coach Dan Connor. Per 247Sports and On3 rankings, he’s rated as the No. 26 linebacker prospect nationally.
Wiggins made his decision public on social media with a message reading, “1000% Committed!! #WEARE”. His addition helps elevate Penn State’s 2026 recruiting class to No. 5 in the country and second in the Big Ten, behind only USC.
“He knew where he wanted to go,” said his father, Terence Wiggins, in an interview with On3. “The recruiting process can be overwhelming, and he’s not a spotlight guy. If you’re completely sure about a school, there’s no reason to wait.”
Wiggins had taken visits to Syracuse, Cincinnati, and Kentucky, and received an offer from Michigan State, but ultimately chose to stay close to home.
The Nittany Lions are aiming to build on a strong 13-3 campaign that included an 8-1 Big Ten finish and a win in the Orange Bowl. Their season ended in a close 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in the CFP semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl. With quarterback Drew Allar returning for his senior year and James Franklin entering his 12th season after his best year at the helm, Penn State is poised to contend for another College Football Playoff run.
