Virginia Tech saw strong contributions from its freshmen during the 2024 season, but with numerous departures this offseason, the incoming class has a prime opportunity to make an immediate impact in 2025.
Quentin Reddish likely had the most significant impact among the 2024 freshmen, but several offensive skill players also played key roles. Now, the question is: which Hokies will step up the most in 2025?
1. Wide Receivers Brodie Adams and Chanz Wiggins
It’s natural to group Adams and Wiggins together. Adams saw limited action in 2024, recording one rush for 47 yards and one reception for 14 yards, while Wiggins didn’t register any stats. However, with several wide receivers departing, both players have an opportunity to carve out bigger roles.
Both Adams and Wiggins can line up outside and are expected to back up Donovan Greene and Cam Seldon. Keylen Adams and Chanz Wiggins were among Virginia Tech’s top-rated recruits in the 2024 class, and their elite athleticism could help them shine in 2025.
2. Defensive Lineman Andrew Hanchuk
Hanchuk didn’t see the field in 2024, largely due to an injury, but his high school film suggests he has the tools to take a big step forward in his sophomore season. His size and skill set could make him a key contributor on the defensive line.
3. Running Back Tyler Mason
While Mason’s impact in 2024 was minimal—totaling ten carries, mostly when Bhayshul Tuten was unavailable—his role could expand in 2025. Despite Virginia Tech bringing in new running backs through the transfer portal, the team appears committed to a “running back-by-committee” approach, which could provide Mason and other backs more opportunities beyond the top two spots on the depth chart.
