Rutgers linebacker Mohamed Toure has officially transferred to the University of Miami via the transfer portal. He joins a Hurricanes linebacker corps that includes Popo Aguirre, Jaylin Alderman, Wesley Bissainthe, Bobby Pruitt, and fellow transfer Kamal Bonner. Toure reunites with Miami’s new defensive coordinator, Corey Hetherman, who coached him as Rutgers’ linebackers coach from 2022 to 2023. This reunion offers Toure a sense of familiarity and trust as he makes his first collegiate move.
However, Toure’s injury history raises some concerns. He missed the entire 2022 season due to a torn ACL and then suffered another ACL tear during fall camp in 2023. A member of the high school class of 2019, Toure brings veteran experience, but durability remains a question mark.
Despite the setbacks, Toure has produced solid numbers. As a sophomore, he recorded 20 tackles, five tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, an interception, and two forced fumbles. In his junior year, he tallied 51 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. His 2023 season saw him return to form with 93 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble. He served as team captain in both 2023 and 2024 and earned Fourth Team All-Big Ten honors in 2023.
Toure considered offers from Penn State, Indiana, and North Carolina, visiting each program. However, his bond with Hetherman appeared to be the deciding factor. Before his commitment, he was rated the top uncommitted player in the transfer portal by On3, which also ranked him as the No. 219 overall player and No. 8 linebacker available. Toure adds to Miami’s top-10 ranked transfer class, joining newcomers like Kamal Bonner, CharMar Brown, Keelan Marion, Tony Johnson, Bert Auburn, JaKobe Thomas, and Keionte Scott.
