The Boston Red Sox entered the offseason with significant moves to make in order to close the gap on the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles in the competitive American League East.
After missing out on superstar Juan Soto in free agency, Boston shifted focus to a major trade, acquiring ace Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in a high-profile deal.
The Red Sox may still look to add another starter before the season begins, with the Seattle Mariners emerging as the ideal trade partner. Seattle is in need of an infielder, and Boston could offer first baseman Triston Casas. While the Mariners are reportedly more inclined to trade Luis Castillo, starting pitcher Bryan Woo might be a more fitting target for the Red Sox.

Casas, also 24, is a talented first baseman who posted a 129 OPS+ in 2023 but dealt with injuries for much of the season. His upside makes him a key piece in this trade proposal.
Castro, a 21-year-old well-rounded prospect, has a high floor. While the Mariners aren’t in need of an immediate outfielder, they could benefit from an upgrade to their farm system.
Guerrero, another young right-hander, could join the Mariners’ bullpen by 2025, thanks to his elite pitching repertoire, which offers high potential as a reliever.
Both teams benefit, with the Red Sox acquiring a promising 24-year-old starter to address a need, while the Mariners gain a talented first baseman and two solid prospects to further bolster their farm system.
