Daniel Farke admitted he was left “heartbroken” after Leeds United fell to a stoppage-time defeat at Fulham.
A late own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson handed the hosts an undeserved 1-0 win, despite Leeds creating the better chances throughout the game. Sean Longstaff and Emile Smith-Rowe both hit the woodwork, while Karl Darlow produced two superb saves on his first Premier League appearance in almost four years.
Farke felt his side had done enough to take all three points, praising their performance and commitment. He highlighted how Leeds adapted well, looked dangerous on the counter, and restricted Fulham to long-range efforts until the dying minutes.
“It’s cruel,” said Farke. “We would have deserved a clean sheet and at least a point. I’m proud of the players’ effort after a tough few weeks. Football can be harsh – today we were on the unlucky side.”
The defeat was made worse by an injury to substitute Daniel James, who had only just returned from international duty with Wales. Farke confirmed Leeds will assess the winger but hopes the setback is not serious.
Leeds now turn their focus to a trip to Wolves on September 20.
