Travis Hunter, a standout for the Colorado Buffaloes, has gained recognition for his ability to play both cornerback and wide receiver in college football. As he transitions to the NFL, it remains unclear if his future team will ask him to focus on one position. According to Dane Brugler of The Athletic, there’s a possibility that Hunter could start his NFL career as a cornerback while occasionally contributing on offense.
While the exact role is uncertain, Brugler suggests that Hunter may primarily be a starting cornerback with limited offensive involvement. Hunter, however, is determined to continue playing both positions, just as he did at Colorado, where he participated in 94% of the offensive snaps and 92.9% of defensive plays when active this season.
“I’m super confident, and I believe that I can do it at the next level,” Hunter said in an interview with ESPN’s Mark Schlabach. He expressed his belief that he can continue playing both positions in the NFL, despite doubts from critics. “They said I couldn’t do it in college, and I ended up doing it in college. A lot of people tell me I can’t do it in the NFL, but I’m going to still do it.”
Hunter’s exceptional performance on both sides of the ball has raised questions about how his desire to continue playing both positions might affect his NFL draft prospects, especially if some teams prefer him to specialize in one.
