With Spring Training right around the corner, several MLB free agents are still searching for a team. Surprisingly, some high-caliber players remain unsigned.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a few former players still on the market, including Andrew Heaney.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has projected Heaney’s next destination, ranking him as the fourth-best available player and predicting he will sign with the Atlanta Braves.
“Heaney’s not an ace, but he could be a solid No. 2/3 starter in a lot of rotations… With Jack Flaherty finally off the board, the only remaining pitcher ranked higher than Heaney comes with the added complication of draft pick compensation tied to a qualifying offer,” Miller wrote.
“So, who has the greatest last-minute need for a starting pitcher? Probably the Atlanta Braves, right?”
Heaney performed well for the Dodgers in 2022, recording a 3.10 ERA across 16 starts.
While he may not be a frontline ace, he has the ability to provide quality innings at the back end of a rotation. Since 2022, Heaney has logged 400 innings, making him a valuable option for a team like the Braves, who have already lost durability in their rotation with the departures of Max Fried and Charlie Morton.
With pitchers and catchers set to report in less than a week, Heaney remains a name to watch.
Now that former Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty has signed with the Tigers, the starting pitching market is thinning. However, many teams are still looking to bolster their rotations, and Heaney could be a strong late-offseason addition.
