Manchester United are facing the tough challenge of rebuilding their squad after a disappointing season — all while dealing with restricted finances.
To make matters worse, United won’t be playing European football next season, having finished 15th in the Premier League and failing to secure a Champions League spot after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
As a result, the club has already missed out on several key transfer targets or is on the verge of doing so. Liam Delap has signed for Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres is nearing a move to Arsenal, and Victor Osimhen is reportedly set to make his loan to Galatasaray permanent.
Now, another blow is on the horizon, this time in midfield. According to journalist Nicolò Schira on X, Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios is closing in on a move to AS Roma.
The Serie A club has reached an agreement in principle with the Colombian international for a five-year deal worth around £2.24 million per season. Roma are reportedly ready to offer between £20–21 million for the 25-year-old, though it remains unclear whether Palmeiras will accept that valuation.
Rios recently impressed at the Club World Cup, helping Palmeiras reach the quarter-finals before being knocked out by Chelsea. If the move goes through, it would mark the start of his European journey, having come through Flamengo’s academy before spells at Guarani and Palmeiras, who he joined in 2023.
