The Atlanta Braves are bringing in another right-handed bat to bolster their roster.
According to Robert Murray of FanSided, Atlanta has signed veteran first baseman Garrett Cooper to a minor-league deal, which includes an invitation to Spring Training.
Cooper, 34, is an eight-year MLB veteran who earned an All-Star nod in 2022 while with the Miami Marlins. That season, he posted a .261 average with nine home runs and 50 RBIs in 119 games.
Last year, Cooper struggled at the plate, hitting just .206 during stints with the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. He was eventually designated for assignment by both teams and finished the 2024 season in the minors with the Baltimore Orioles organization.
Despite his recent struggles, Cooper rebounded in Triple-A, batting .310, and has solid power with a career MLB OPS of .759. With experience at first base and in the outfield, he could provide valuable depth for a Braves team that has fallen short in landing some of their other free-agent targets this offseason.
