There’s been no shortage of speculation surrounding the Boston Red Sox recently.
After signing Walker Buehler, the Red Sox have been the subject of much discussion, although not much concrete has materialized. Among the rumors, Boston has been most strongly connected to former Houston Astros All-Star Alex Bregman.
As time goes on, speculation about Bregman’s future continues to grow, particularly regarding whether he’ll end up in Boston. Bregman is an outstanding player who would be an excellent addition to the Red Sox. However, both Boston and the Detroit Tigers have been consistently linked to him, with no clear resolution in sight. Bregman’s previous five-year, $100 million contract with Houston is set to be surpassed, but negotiations seem to be stalling.
Other teams, such as the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays, have been mentioned as potential suitors, but according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Red Sox and Tigers remain the frontrunners.
“I think the Red Sox and Tigers are the most likely landing spots for Bregman,” Heyman commented. “Both teams have had meetings with him, and it makes sense. Coaches and managers who have worked with Bregman speak highly of him. Alex Cora in Boston and AJ Hinch in Detroit are particularly eager to bring him in.”
Based on the consistent links between Bregman and these two teams, Boston and Detroit appear to be the most realistic destinations. But what does Bregman want? While it’s clear that both teams are pursuing him, it remains uncertain whether he’s interested in joining either one.
