DONE DEAL JUST IN: Philadelphia Phillies and Cardinals Swap Third Basemen in Blockbuster Trade for another contract and the remaining $52 million he is owed.

The St. Louis Cardinals are actively seeking a team willing to take on contract, which includes $52 million remaining. However, with other teams making roster moves, the trade market is becoming increasingly challenging to navigate. One potential trade partner for Arenado is the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rumors suggest the Phillies have been in discussions with various teams about Alec Bohm, although they are not actively shopping him at this time. Despite this, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has proposed a scenario in which the Cardinals and Phillies exchange third basemen.

“One of the six teams on Arenado’s original list of preferred destinations was the Philadelphia Phillies,” Miller wrote. “For such a deal to work, though, the Phillies would need to move Bohm, potentially as part of a rare three-team trade.”

Miller’s hypothetical trade would indeed involve three teams:

• The Cardinals send 3B Nolan Arenado to the Phillies.
• The Phillies trade 3B Alec Bohm to the Mariners.
• The Mariners send SS prospect Colt Emerson (ranked No. 35 overall by Joel Reuter) to the Cardinals.
