The San Diego Padres have called up outfielder Bryce Johnson from Triple-A El Paso and sent catcher Luis Campusano down in a corresponding move.
To open a spot on the 40-man roster for Johnson, the team placed right-hander Yu Darvish on the 60-day injured list due to ongoing elbow issues.
Darvish, 38, has yet to pitch in the majors this season because of elbow inflammation, though he made a rehab start in El Paso in May. Over his 12-year MLB career, he holds a 110-88 record with a 3.58 ERA in 282 starts for the Rangers, Dodgers, Cubs, and Padres.
Johnson, 29, will make his 2025 season debut after hitting .303 with three homers in 42 games for El Paso. He has a .177 batting average, one home run, and nine RBIs in 88 major league games with the Giants (2022–23) and Padres (2024).
Campusano, 26, has gone hitless in 18 at-bats this season. Across parts of six seasons with San Diego, he has a career .241 average with 17 homers and 77 RBIs.
