The Washington Huskies received a boost today as 3-star cornerback C.J. Lavender from Mater Dei High School (CA) announced his commitment to UW during a live stream hosted by On3 on YouTube.
Lavender’s recruitment gained momentum after an unofficial visit to Washington for their junior day, which helped solidify the Huskies as the frontrunner. Despite offers from major programs like Miami, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and USC, UW ultimately won out. Ranked as the 81st cornerback in the nation by 247 Sports, Lavender tallied 26 tackles and two interceptions last season on a talent-packed Mater Dei squad. Standing at 5’11” and roughly 177 pounds, he brings versatility to the secondary with the ability to play multiple positions.
Washington has been making inroads at Mater Dei in recent years, a promising development given the school’s reputation as a powerhouse for Division I talent. Last cycle, the Huskies secured commitments from quarterback Dash Beierly and wide receiver Marcus Harris. If they can continue landing one or two Mater Dei recruits annually, it would be a significant win for the program.
Lavender marks the Huskies’ seventh commitment in the class and third defensive back, joining Elijah Durr and Ksani Jiles. The coaching staff is expected to take around 4-5 defensive backs in total for this cycle. Stay tuned for more updates, and follow @asieverkropp for the latest.
