The Philadelphia Phillies have traded reliever Tyler Gilbert to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor-league pitcher Aaron Combs, the teams announced Wednesday.
Gilbert, 31, was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Dec. 22. In 2024, he appeared in six games out of their bullpen, recording a 3.24 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP, and four strikeouts over 8 1/3 innings. Notably, Gilbert pitched a no-hitter in his first MLB start with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021.
Combs, selected by the White Sox in the eighth round of the 2024 draft from the University of Tennessee, has yet to allow an earned run in six Single-A appearances with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.
To clear space on their 40-man roster, the White Sox designated infielder Braden Shewmake for assignment.
