The New York Yankees are looking to add a left-handed reliever to their bullpen.
While there are several options available on the market, the Yankees are particularly interested in key man. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are pursuing the 34-year-old pitcher, who has played for seven teams in his career. In 2024, Chafin split his season between the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers, posting a 3.51 ERA in 62 appearances. His performance was stronger with the Tigers, but he still managed to strike out over one batter per inning with both teams, recording a 28.5% strikeout rate. The Yankees’ interest in Chafin makes sense for multiple reasons, especially considering their current bullpen lacks any left-handed relievers. While a 50/50 bullpen split isn’t a priority, most teams prefer having at least two lefties available. Chafin is expected to sign a one-year deal for just under $5 million in 2025, which would be a cost-effective addition for the Yankees as they continue to reshape their roster.
