The Sacramento Kings are reportedly making a strong push to trade up in the NBA Draft, as they currently don’t hold a first-round pick. One team they’ve frequently been linked to is the Miami Heat, who own the 20th overall selection.
Miami could be an ideal trade partner for Sacramento, given the range of players the Heat could potentially move — including Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, and Duncan Robinson. One of the most frequently mentioned names possibly heading to Miami in such a deal has been six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan.
However, according to Sactown Sports 1140’s Allen Stiles, trade discussions between the Kings and Heat have not involved DeRozan so far. “No DeMar DeRozan convo has happened with the Miami Heat,” Stiles said, though he noted that talks between the two franchises have occurred. He added, “No DeMar DeRozan conversation has happened with the Heat… yet,” suggesting that DeRozan could still enter the conversation down the line.
This also implies that the Heat might be exploring other players on Sacramento’s roster. The Kings have a deep pool of talent, including Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, and Keegan Murray — all of whom could appeal to Miami. Sacramento’s main challenge last season was roster fit, particularly following the trade of De’Aaron Fox.
Meanwhile, Miami remains heavily linked to a potential Kevin Durant trade, but DeRozan has reportedly emerged as a fallback option should those efforts fall through.
With the offseason approaching full swing and Game 7 of the NBA Finals about to wrap things up, expect trade chatter between the Kings and Heat — and possibly involving DeRozan — to ramp up in the coming weeks.
