Newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United have secured the signing of left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson from French club Lille.
The 26-year-old Swedish international has agreed to a four-year contract at Elland Road in a deal worth £10 million.
Last season, Gudmundsson featured in 45 matches for Lille, who finished fifth in Ligue 1—missing out on Champions League qualification to Nice on goal difference. Lille also boasted the second-strongest defence in the league, conceding just 36 goals—one more than champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Gudmundsson, who has previously played for Halmstads and Groningen before moving to Lille in 2021, scored twice in Ligue 1 during the 2024-25 campaign and completed 82.1% of his passes. Versatile in defence and attack, he can also operate as a winger or centre-back.
He played nine Champions League games last season, helping Lille reach the round of 16 after finishing seventh in the league phase, where they were eliminated by Borussia Dortmund.
Gabriel is the son of ex-Sweden international Niklas Gudmundsson, who had stints at Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town.
He becomes Leeds’ fourth summer signing, following defenders Sebastiaan Bornauw and Jaka Bijol, and German forward Lukas Nmecha. Leeds kick off their Premier League season at home against Everton on 18 August.
