With the Boston Red Sox sitting at 33-36 and trailing five teams in the race for the final AL wild card spot, one MLB insider suggests the team could become sellers at the upcoming trade deadline if they don’t heat up soon.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, outfielder Jarren Duran is a prime candidate to be moved — potentially to the San Diego Padres, who reportedly view him as their top option to shore up left field.

Duran, under team control through 2026, could bring back a strong return. His breakout 2023 campaign included an AL-best in doubles and triples, along with 21 home runs and 34 stolen bases. The emergence of top prospect Roman Anthony at the major league level could also push Boston to make room.

Bowden notes the Padres have been scrambling to fill the void in left field since Jurickson Profar signed with Atlanta, and Duran could be the solution they’re eyeing.
