SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres have brought back catcher Elias Díaz on a one-year contract, which includes a mutual option for the 2026 season.
The team announced the signing on Thursday.
Díaz, 34, split last season between San Diego and Colorado, hitting .265 with six home runs and 39 RBIs in 96 games. He joined the Padres after being released by the Rockies on Aug. 16.
Originally debuting with Pittsburgh in 2015, Díaz has a career batting average of .251 with 62 home runs and 297 RBIs over 724 games.
He was named the All-Star Game MVP in 2023 after hitting a two-run homer in the NL’s 3-2 win. That season, he batted .267 with 14 homers and a career-best 72 RBIs in 141 games for Colorado.
