Sunderland have officially completed the permanent signing of winger Simon Adingra from Brighton.
The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international arrives for a fee of £21 million plus add-ons and has agreed to a five-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
Adingra initially joined Brighton from FC Nordsjaelland in 2022 and spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
Last season, he featured in 29 Premier League matches, registering two goals and two assists.
Speaking to Sunderland’s official website, Adingra said: “I’m delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going. The club’s ambition and project really stood out to me. After speaking with everyone involved, I felt this was the right step – I want to be part of Sunderland’s journey.
“Playing in the Premier League has always been a dream of mine, so to continue competing at this level is amazing. There’s a tough road ahead with top-class opponents, but I’m ready for the challenge.”
Adingra played a key role in Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2023, providing both assists in their 2-1 final win over Nigeria and earning the Best Young Player award of the tournament.
He becomes Sunderland’s sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, and Chemsdine Talbi, as the club gears up for its first Premier League campaign since 2016-17.
