L’Jarius Sneed’s time with the Tennessee Titans has gotten off to a rocky start. The Titans traded a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason to acquire the cornerback, and then signed him to a four-year, \$74.6 million contract.
But so far, Sneed hasn’t delivered on that investment. He was limited to just five games last season due to injury and hasn’t practiced at all with the team this offseason.
According to head coach Brian Callahan, Sneed won’t be participating in the team’s mandatory minicamp this week. His absence isn’t contract-related, as he’s already been paid — instead, it appears a lingering quadriceps injury continues to sideline him.
This situation poses a significant problem for Tennessee. The team gave up valuable draft picks and committed major money to Sneed. Cutting him now would cost them \$31.1 million in dead cap, effectively locking him in through the 2025 season. After that, releasing him would carry a much smaller \$8.1 million cap hit.
If Sneed doesn’t return to the field and perform well this season, he’s likely headed for free agency in 2026. With that in mind, he has every reason to recover quickly and prove he’s worth the Titans’ investment — or to attract a new contract elsewhere.
