DONE DEAL: West Ham sign Bundesliga midfielder for €18 million. West Ham pull off a jaw-dropping deal

According to Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, West Ham United have shown interest in Aleix Garcia. The Hammers are eager to strengthen their first-team squad with a dynamic midfielder during the summer transfer window, and the 28-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star has emerged as a prime target.

Although Graham Potter and West Ham had their eyes on Jacob Ramsey, the Aston Villa midfielder is now on the verge of joining Newcastle United. Potter, however, is also an admirer of Garcia’s qualities, and the Spaniard has not been heavily linked with other clubs this summer.

Aleix Garcia’s Bundesliga Journey

Garcia’s time at Bayer Leverkusen since his €18 million move from Girona last summer has been eventful. The 28-year-old arrived in Germany with high expectations following an impressive spell in La Liga, where he had cemented himself as one of Girona’s standout midfielders.

So far, Garcia has made nearly 50 appearances for Leverkusen, contributing five goals and four assists. Despite this, his future in the Bundesliga could be short-lived, with West Ham reportedly keen to secure his services in the upcoming transfer window.

London Calling?

West Ham initially considered signing Garcia last summer, though a deal did not materialize. Their renewed interest makes sense after Carlos Soler and Guido Rodriguez failed to impress during the 2024/25 season—Soler has returned to PSG following a disappointing loan, while Rodriguez’s future at West Ham remains uncertain.

With Tomas Soucek, James Ward-Prowse, and Edson Alvarez also facing uncertain futures at the London Stadium, West Ham appear determined to add a quality midfielder this summer. Garcia has emerged as a promising option, though it remains unclear whether the club will make a formal move for the Spaniard.

While several midfielders are on West Ham’s radar, Garcia could be a major boost to their midfield setup. The coming weeks will reveal whether he ends his Bayer Leverkusen tenure after just one season.
