Shania Twain is embracing change. The country music icon is preparing to conclude her third Las Vegas residency, a greatest hits show named after her landmark 1997 album, Come On Over. She launched the residency last May, fresh off a two-year world tour for her 2023 album, Queen of Me. While she’s looking forward to some downtime, she admits that saying goodbye is bittersweet.
“This residency has been a beautiful, nostalgic experience,” Twain shares with Bustle over Zoom from her Las Vegas home, as she gears up for her final week of performances. “When a chapter comes to an end, I start thinking, ‘Wow, this is going by too fast.’ It’s a great feeling—it’s been an amazing and successful run.”
Though she plans to return to the studio, Twain is taking on an unexpected new project in the meantime. She lends her voice to a dancing tongue—yes, really—in Coffee mate’s first Super Bowl commercial, where she sings the upbeat jingle Gimme Cold Foam, describing it as a “proper boppy poppy song.”
The ad will air on February 9 during Super Bowl LIX, a moment that brings back fond memories for Twain. She headlined the 2003 Super Bowl halftime show alongside No Doubt, performing Man! I Feel Like a Woman! and Up! Notably, no country artist has headlined the halftime show since, and Twain hopes that changes.
In the interview below, she reflects on her Super Bowl performance, shares her dream halftime show lineup, and offers a glimpse into her upcoming album.
Looking back at your 2003 Super Bowl halftime performance, what stands out the most?
It was chaotic, rushed, and stressful. The logistics of getting everything set up and cleared off the field in time for live TV were intense, so we rehearsed that multiple times. More than anything, I was focused on making sure everything was in place before the first note. But it was also incredibly exciting—a truly larger-than-life experience.
Who would you love to see headline the Super Bowl halftime show?
Dolly Parton. Just Dolly—let her own the entire show and give us an unforgettable moment.
A performance featuring you, Dolly, and Taylor Swift would be iconic.
Maybe I spoke too soon when I said just Dolly! I agree—it should be the three of us.
With Taylor already attending games to support Travis Kelce, it feels like a perfect fit.
Why hasn’t anyone thought of this? We need to make it happen while they’re still together—or at least ensure they don’t break up!
If Taylor were to headline, what advice would you give her?
She’s already familiar with the scale of these venues from her stadium tours and all the games she’s attended. But I’d tell her to remember that the Super Bowl is unlike any other show. No matter how much experience you have, it’s a unique challenge.
“You’re Still the One” has remained a fan favorite. Does performing it ever get old?
Never. The song has evolved through so many meanings over the years. I originally wrote it about my relationship with my ex-husband [producer Robert “Mutt” Lange]—we were an unlikely couple from opposite sides of the world, and people doubted our relationship. The song was different from anything in country music at the time, but I believed in its magic.
After my divorce, performing it took on a new layer, and over time, I’ve heard so many stories from fans about what the song means to them. It resonates with people in a deeply personal way—it’s about enduring love and overcoming challenges. That’s when I know a song is truly timeless.
Are there any songs you ever get tired of singing?
I always wanted to have enough hits so that if I needed a break from a song, I could swap it out for another. Sometimes I’ll sing Any Man of Mine instead of Honey, I’m Home—I feel like they each deserve a turn.
But Man! I Feel Like a Woman! is the one song I can’t skip. It’s like the national anthem of my shows. A concert wouldn’t be complete without it—it belongs to the fans.
What’s been your favorite moment from this residency?
Wearing the original outfit from the Man! I Feel Like a Woman! music video every night. It’s such an iconic piece, and I’ll be putting it back into storage once the residency ends.
I also feel like I’m closing one chapter and stepping into a new one—working on my next album.
Do you have a vision for the new album’s direction?
Maybe I should do a Taylor Swift-style sequel album—just to keep the theme going! Honestly, I don’t know yet, and that’s the exciting part. I like to fully close a chapter before I dive into the next one. Right now, I have a million ideas, and I need to explore them before I land on the right path. My hope is that the album feels both unmistakably Shania and like something fans didn’t see coming.
