Watford host Bristol City at Vicarage Road tonight as they look to extend their impressive home form to five straight Championship victories.
The clash promises to be a strong test for Javi Gracia’s side, with the Robins currently sitting seventh in the table. Still, the Hornets will fancy their chances, given Bristol City’s recent back-to-back defeats against Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.
One player who remains sidelined is creative midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze, who continues his recovery from a long-term foot injury. However, there’s finally some positive news on the Georgian’s progress.
Speaking to the Watford Observer, Gracia said:
“He’s training individually right now, but maybe in one or two weeks we’ll have good news about him.
That’s what I hope, though I can’t say for certain when he’ll be ready. He’s working hard and the medical staff are doing a great job. Hopefully, he’ll be back soon.”
Chakvetadze eager to reignite his Watford impact
Chakvetadze joined Watford from Belgian side KAA Gent, initially on loan before completing a permanent move in 2024.
During his first season at Vicarage Road, the playmaker managed three goal contributions in 34 league appearances. Last season, his influence grew considerably — finishing third in the supporters’ vote for Watford’s 2024/25 Player of the Season award.
The 26-year-old has been out since April, when he picked up the injury in an away match against Bristol City. Before that setback, he had been a key figure, featuring 39 times in the Championship and registering two goals and six assists — form that even drew summer interest from Valencia.
Watford’s attack already showing promise
Despite sitting 12th in the table, Watford have several standout performers this season. Imran Louza has led by example, recording eight goal contributions in 11 league outings, while Luca Kjerrumgaard has chipped in with four goals from 12 appearances.
Youngsters Nestory Irankunda and Mamadou Doumbia have also shown exciting potential, adding depth and energy to the forward line.
Chakvetadze’s return will only enhance Watford’s attacking options. His dribbling, vision, and creativity could prove vital in linking up with Louza and unlocking the team’s full attacking potential.
If he can rediscover last season’s form, the Georgian midfielder could play a major role in helping the Hornets climb the Championship table as the campaign unfolds.
