As reported by AFL.com.au on Sunday afternoon, the Western Bulldogs traded pick No.12 to Greater Western Sydney in exchange for picks No.14 and 37. The deal was lodged on Monday morning and approved shortly after.
The Bulldogs are expected to use pick No.37 to secure Gold Coast Suns Academy product Connor Budarick.
Talks over Budarick had previously stalled, with the Suns initially demanding pick No.33 — an offer the Bulldogs declined.
Budarick featured in 19 games for Damien Hardwick’s side this season, including both finals, primarily playing as a pressure forward. He has now played 55 career games across six seasons, having overcome two knee reconstructions — one suffered in round two, 2021, and another in round 16, 2022.
Both the Bulldogs and North Melbourne had shown interest in the 24-year-old, while Gold Coast had tabled a two-year deal that would have carried him through to his free agency year.
Following the trade, the Bulldogs now hold picks 14, 33, and 37 for November’s Telstra AFL Draft, while the Giants possess picks 12 and 35.
