Virginia Tech’s football roster faces significant challenges in 2025, especially at wide receiver, where their top four targets—Stephen Gosnell, Ali Jennings, Da’Quan Felton, and Jaylin Lane—are either heading to the NFL Draft or have exhausted their eligibility.
To address this, head coach Brent Pry turned to the transfer portal for a quick reload, securing a key addition for returning quarterbacks Kyron Drones and Pop Watson on Friday night.
Wake Forest wide receiver Donavon Greene transfers to Virginia Tech
Most of Virginia Tech’s recent transfer portal pickups have focused on defense and the offensive line, guided by new coach Matt Moore. However, the Hokies also landed athlete Cameron Seldon from Tennessee, who will transition to wide receiver in Blacksburg. He’ll now team up with an experienced veteran from the ACC to strengthen the position group.
Wake Forest transfer Donavon Greene committed to the Hokies, bringing experience and a personal connection to the program—he’s related to freshman running back Tyler Mason. Greene originally joined Wake Forest as part of the 2019 recruiting class and will join Virginia Tech as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility left. His career has been interrupted by injuries, causing him to miss the 2021 and 2023 seasons.
During his time at Wake Forest, Greene recorded 102 receptions for nearly 1,900 yards and 12 touchdowns, including four 100-yard receiving games. Along with Seldon, Greene adds valuable experience to a wide receiver room filled with promising young talent. He likely won’t be the last wideout Virginia Tech adds through the portal.
