The Tennessee Titans adding a seasoned veteran to bolster their secondary, and NFL.com’s Jeffri Chadiha believes former Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton would be a smart choice.
“Hilton might not be a household name, but he played a key role as a slot corner during Cincinnati’s rise to contention a few years ago,” Chadiha noted. “That was when current Titans head coach Brian Callahan served as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator, which makes this potential reunion a logical fit.”
The Titans have multiple roster needs — evident from holding the top pick in this year’s draft — and the secondary remains a problem area. Last season’s cornerback acquisitions fell short: L’Jarius Sneed only appeared in five games, and Chidobe Awuzie underperformed to the point of being released this March.
Hilton brings toughness and leadership, traits the Titans sorely lack. While Roger McCreary has adapted well to playing in the slot, he remains the only reliable option there. The team needs greater depth and competition in the secondary.
Tennessee previously brought in Awuzie from Cincinnati, though his stint was cut short due to injuries. Hilton’s connection to Callahan could ease his integration into the team and provide stability for younger defensive backs.
Now 31, Hilton entered the league undrafted in 2016 out of Ole Miss. After short stops with the Jaguars and Patriots, he found a long-term role with the Steelers before joining the Bengals in 2021. In 2024, he notched 73 tackles and an interception for Cincinnati.
