Several free agents are still available who could play key roles for teams in 2025.
This offseason has felt unusually slow and drawn out, but the wait is nearly over. In just a few weeks, pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training, with the Boston Red Sox scheduled to begin on February 12.
Before that, we might see the free-agent market heat up once again as some top players finalize deals. One notable name still unsigned is former Boston Red Sox All-Star Kenley Jansen. Despite spending the last two seasons with Boston, Jansen remains on the market.
Earlier in the offseason, there was significant speculation linking Jansen to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Having spent the first 12 years of his MLB career with the Dodgers, Jansen had expressed openness to a reunion. With Los Angeles in need of bullpen help, it seemed like a logical fit.
However, the Dodgers have since bolstered their bullpen by signing Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates. Even so, Jansen hasn’t ruled out a return. In a video shared by TMZ, he said, “I mean, you never know. I’m a free agent, so we will see where it goes. I’m ready to play, man. Wherever it is. That’s how I see it.”
Jansen is arguably the best remaining free-agent reliever on the market. Where he will sign remains to be seen.
