JUST IN: £80m Goal Hunter Lands at Newcastle – Fear the Magpies. Shockwave – Striker Arrival Sends Rivals Running

Newcastle are reportedly preparing to make a bid for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke. The Magpies are keen to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad before the September 1 transfer deadline, with the £80m-rated Spain international a key target.

While Newcastle have already secured former AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, the club is also set to finalize a £40m deal for Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey. Additionally, they are pursuing Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Congolese striker has given the green light to a move.

Porto are reportedly bracing for Newcastle’s approach for Aghehowa, concerned they could lose their star striker before the window closes. The 21-year-old has been identified as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, who is understood to want a move to Liverpool. The Sweden international is unlikely to feature for Newcastle again, and the club has rejected Liverpool’s opening £110m bid, holding out for their £150m valuation.

Aghehowa was expected to join the Premier League last summer when a £35m move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea collapsed. He instead signed a five-year deal with Porto and had a strong debut season, finishing as the league’s joint-second top scorer with 19 goals, behind Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres, who scored 39.
