Mike Shula, the former head coach of Alabama, has been hired as South Carolina’s new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. His contract with the Gamecocks is a three-year deal valued at $1.1 million.
Shula served as Alabama’s head coach from 2003 to 2006, compiling a 26-23 record. He was dismissed in November 2006 by then-athletic director Mal Moore.
After leaving Alabama, Shula went on to work with various NFL coaching staffs. In 2024, he joined South Carolina as an offensive assistant. His new position will be closely watched, especially as Alabama is scheduled to visit Columbia for a matchup with the Gamecocks during the 2025 season. Alabama won the previous game against South Carolina 27-25 in 2024, making Shula’s strategy against his former team next season a storyline to watch.
