Through the first half of April, it’s clear that new UNC football head coach Bill Belichick has been all business. While finishing up spring practices, the 72-year-old has also been making a strong push on the recruiting trail.
UNC had already secured three commitments from the 2026 class at the start of the month, and that number grew on Saturday afternoon with another addition.
Jaylen McGill, a four-star running back from Mountain View Preparatory School (S.C.), announced his pledge to the Tar Heels on social media.
The 5-foot-9, 215-pound prospect held offers from numerous top programs and had made unofficial spring visits to Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas before deciding on UNC.
McGill is currently ranked No. 255 overall and No. 6 in South Carolina according to the 247Sports 2026 Composite rankings.
He’s the 13th player to join Belichick’s 2026 recruiting class and the third four-star recruit, joining defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin from North Duplin High School (N.C.) and cornerback O’Mari Johnson from Jackson Academy (Miss.). UNC’s class now sits at No. 17 nationally and No. 5 in the ACC, per 247Sports.
