The transfer portal gives and takes, and this time, it’s BYU veteran guard Dallin Hall who is stepping into the world of college basketball free agency in search of a starting role elsewhere.
Hall, who served as BYU’s backup point guard this season, had been a regular starter in his first two years with the Cougars. However, the emergence of Egor Demin led to a reduction in Hall’s playing time, particularly as Demin gained confidence late in the season and during the NCAA Tournament.
This isn’t Hall’s first time exploring transfer options—he previously considered leaving when BYU underwent a major coaching change. Now, with both Hall and Richie Saunders departing, the program faces a critical juncture.
There’s no word yet on potential landing spots, but Hall previously drew interest from top programs like Kentucky and Creighton when evaluating his options last year. A steady and talented guard, Hall has the skill set to lead a competitive team and likely recognized that his role at BYU was becoming less certain, whether due to incoming transfers or other roster changes.

Hall embraced new head coach Kevin Young’s system this season and played a key role in one of the best campaigns in BYU history. His leadership, dedication, and effort were invaluable to the program, and he always brought intensity to the court.
