The Kansas City Chiefs enter the offseason following a humiliating Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. To make matters worse, they may lose a key playmaker to the Buffalo Bills.
Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes have fueled an intense AFC rivalry between the Bills and Chiefs, with Kansas City typically coming out on top. However, the two teams remain closely matched. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley projected that wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown could switch sides in the rivalry, leaving the Chiefs to sign with the Bills.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Mahomes pushed for the Chiefs to sign Brown last offseason and is expected to do so again after Brown missed most of the year. However, Fowler also reported that Allen could be lobbying for Brown to join Buffalo.
“Mahomes advocated for signing Brown last year and will likely do so again,” wrote Fowler. “Will another star quarterback—like Josh Allen—be next? People with the Chiefs I spoke to this week believe that Allen has long wanted to play with Brown.”
Brown suffered a preseason injury that sidelined him for most of the season, preventing him from building chemistry with Mahomes. A full year together could have been promising, but with Xavier Worthy’s late-season emergence and Rashee Rice returning, the Chiefs might choose to move on from Brown.
As long as Allen is under center, the Bills remain championship contenders. However, they continue to fall short against Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs. Adding an explosive weapon like Brown could be the piece that finally pushes them past Kansas City.
Mahomes has dominated the NFL since taking over as the Chiefs’ starter, but last season was statistically one of his worst. He posted a career-low in passing yards and tied his career-low in touchdown passes as a starter. Meanwhile, Allen won the league MVP and continues to improve, setting a personal best in ball security this past season.
