The Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to part ways with general manager Trent Baalke just weeks after the conclusion of the 2024 NFL regular season.
Baalke spent five years with the organization, including one as director of player personnel and four as general manager. Team owner Shad Khan made the decision after weeks of discussions with Baalke about the franchise’s direction.
“After several conversations with Trent Baalke this week, we mutually agreed that it’s in our best interests to part ways, effective immediately,” Khan said in a statement on Wednesday. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Trent for his contributions over the past five seasons. My focus remains on building a winning team in Jacksonville, and I look forward to introducing a new head coach who will lead our players and fans to success.”
Baalke, credited with drafting and developing quarterback Trevor Lawrence, was unable to build a competitive roster around the former first-overall pick over the past four seasons.
The Jaguars have named Ethan Waugh as interim general manager while the team begins its search for a new head coach. Baalke’s tenure ended following a 4-13 season, which capped a stretch of four years marked by multiple coaching changes and disappointing results. Under his leadership, the Jaguars posted a combined record of 25-43.
With the NFL draft just three months away, Jacksonville’s search for fresh leadership in the front office is already underway.
