Alabama men’s basketball was among the finalists for AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. However, Dybantsa, a 6-foot-9, 210-pound small forward, ultimately committed to BYU. His other finalists included UNC and Kansas.

Dybantsa announced his decision on ESPN on Tuesday, but a BYU basketball spokesperson confirmed to AL.com that he had already signed a financial aid agreement with the school during the early signing period in November.
Sources with knowledge of the recruitment told AL.com that Dybantsa’s NIL deal at BYU is valued in the multi-million-dollar range, a significant amount in both football and basketball terms.
Alabama had a strong connection with Dybantsa through assistant coach Preston Murphy, who had coached him in AAU a few years ago. Murphy recently scouted Dybantsa in person, and Dybantsa’s father attended Alabama’s game against UNC in Chapel Hill on Dec. 4, after the early signing period.
Despite missing out on Dybantsa, Alabama still boasts the No. 12 recruiting class for 2025, per 247Sports. The Crimson Tide signed Davion Hannah, London Jemison, and Amari Allen.
