Nebraska football has added a new kicker to its roster.
5-star who previously kicked for Charlotte and California, has signed with the Huskers and will have three years of eligibility left.
Cunanan started his college career at Charlotte, where he made 9 of 15 field goals and was perfect on extra points (16-for-16) as a true freshman in 2023. He also recorded 21 touchbacks on kickoffs that season.
In 2024, he appeared in just three games, going 5-for-5 on field goals with one kickoff touchback.
After transferring to Cal during the winter portal window, Cunanan later chose to move again—this time to Nebraska—citing academic reasons. He told HuskerOnline that Cal didn’t offer his desired major, construction management, which is available at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Earlier this week, reserve Nebraska kicker Nico Ottomanelli entered the transfer portal. Despite his departure, the Huskers appeared to be in solid shape with underclassmen Tristan Alvano and John Hohl returning.
With Kyle Cunanan now joining the team, Nebraska has a trio of kickers—Cunanan, Alvano, and Hohl—each with three years of eligibility remaining. Over the past two seasons, the group has collectively converted 36 of 54 field goal attempts. Their longest successful kicks are impressive as well: Cunanan has hit from 49 yards, Hohl from 54, and Alvano from 55.
