New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the team has reached an agreement with defensive end Chris Rumph II, an unrestricted free agent, on a one-year deal.
Rumph, standing 6-2 and weighing 244 pounds, is entering his fifth NFL season. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft after playing at Duke. Over four seasons with the Chargers (2021–2024), he appeared in 37 regular season games, posting 29 tackles (17 solo), three sacks, four tackles for loss, one pass defensed, one fumble recovery, and ten special teams tackles. He also saw action in the 2022 Wild Card Playoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2024, the Gainesville, Florida native spent the season on Injured Reserve due to a foot injury.
During his college career at Duke (2017–2020), Rumph played in 36 games with 12 starts, totaling 125 tackles (71 solo), 17.5 sacks, 34 tackles for loss, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. In 2019, he earned first-team All-American honors from Pro Football Focus and was named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated after recording 47 tackles (19 solo), 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble.
