JUST IN: LSU Football commit a 5-star from Miami Hurricanes and now they are Battling for No. 1 Safety in the Transfer Portal

Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers remain strongly in the mix for 5-star,  the top-ranked safety currently available in the NCAA Transfer Portal, as the program navigates a pivotal offseason period.

Haulcy, who starred for the Houston Cougars in 2024, has drawn interest from LSU, Ole Miss, and Miami since entering the portal in April. The 6-foot, 215-pound standout earned First Team All-Big 12 honors after recording 74 tackles, five interceptions, and 13 pass breakups last season.

Recruitment activity is heating up behind the scenes, with all three programs pushing hard to land the coveted defensive back. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin recently traveled to Texas for a personal visit with Haulcy, signaling serious interest. Despite their recent commitment from UL-Monroe safety Wydett Williams Jr., the Rebels appear to be keeping Haulcy on their radar.

Meanwhile, Miami hosted Haulcy earlier this week for an extended visit, during which he spent time with head coach Mario Cristobal and even met rapper Rick Ross while touring the city. The visit impressed, but Haulcy has yet to commit.

Miami impresses Nation's No. 1 transfer Safety, but LSU looks to swoop in

As for LSU, the Tigers are aiming to secure a visit and make a late push. After solidifying their defensive tackle group by adding South Florida’s Bernard Gooden, LSU has shifted its full attention to strengthening the secondary—where Haulcy sits atop their wishlist.

All signs now point to a tight recruiting battle between LSU and Miami, with Ole Miss potentially fading depending on how their recent safety addition impacts their pursuit of Haulcy.
