The Miami Hurricanes are still regrouping after narrowly missing the ACC title game and falling just short of the College Football Playoff. Adding to the uncertainty, quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward is expected to leave for the NFL, leaving the program’s immediate future under Mario Cristobal somewhat unclear. However, Miami is actively bolstering its roster through the transfer portal. On Tuesday, they secured a commitment from Jacksonville State freshman safety Zechariah Poyser, one of the top defensive backs available. The following day, they landed LSU wide receiver CJ Daniels, as reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Daniels, a former two-star recruit from Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia, initially committed to Liberty in 2019. Over his time with the Flames (2020-2023), he recorded 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons but dealt with injuries in 2022, limiting him to four games. In 2023, Daniels had a breakout year with 47 catches for 988 yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season. His 8-catch, 79-yard performance in the Fiesta Bowl against Oregon pushed him over 1,000 yards, ranking fifth in Liberty’s single-season receiving records.
After transferring to LSU, Daniels tallied 42 receptions for 480 yards in 2024, though he didn’t score a touchdown, playing behind standout receivers Kyren Lacy and Aaron Anderson. Heading to Miami, Daniels brings an impressive career total of 148 receptions for 2,439 yards and 24 touchdowns, making him a dynamic addition to the Hurricanes’ offense for 2025. Meanwhile, Miami is reportedly eyeing Washington State transfer quarterback John Mateer, signaling more potential moves to strengthen their roster.
