Another former Michigan football player who entered the NCAA transfer portal last month has found a new team—and he’s staying in the Big Ten.
Edge rusher Kechaun Bennett has committed to UCLA for the 2025 season, according to an announcement by his agent, Sean Stellato, on Friday.
Bennett confirmed the news on social media, although UCLA has yet to issue an official statement.
He has one year of college eligibility remaining and is set to graduate from Michigan this weekend after four seasons with the program. Bennett redshirted in 2021, played in three games in 2022, and contributed during Michigan’s 2023 national championship season. In 2024, he appeared in all 13 games—primarily on special teams—recording four tackles, a quarterback hurry, and a blocked kick.
Originally from Suffield, Connecticut, Bennett was a four-star recruit in Michigan’s 2021 signing class. Despite appearing in 28 games, he struggled to secure a consistent role on the depth chart.
He’ll now look for a fresh start in Los Angeles with UCLA, which is entering its second season in the Big Ten under head coach DeShaun Foster. UCLA and Michigan are not scheduled to meet in 2025.
Bennett becomes the fourth Michigan scholarship player to transfer during the spring portal window, joining Ben Hall (North Carolina), Jason Hewlett (Boston College), and Amorion Walker (Middle Tennessee).
