The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will enter the 2025 season with their last two offensive coordinators now serving as NFL head coaches. Dave Canales took over in Carolina in 2024, while Liam Coen will lead Jacksonville. As a result, Tampa Bay will be introducing a new offensive coordinator for the second consecutive year and their third in three seasons since Byron Leftwich’s departure after 2022. This time, the team opted for an internal promotion, naming Josh Grizzard as their new offensive leader. This also means quarterback Baker Mayfield will be working with his third OC in as many seasons.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Grizzard emphasized his goal of maintaining as much continuity as possible in Tampa Bay’s offensive approach. “The most important part is keeping the staff and players together, allowing us to move beyond basic installations to refining route concepts, footwork, and naming plays,” Grizzard said. “With those fundamentals in place, we can now focus on evolving—expanding our scheme, learning from across the league and college systems, and putting more pressure on defenses to score points.”
Keeping the successful elements of the offense intact will be crucial for Grizzard, especially following a strong season under Coen, where Tampa Bay ranked among the league’s top five in multiple offensive categories.
“I’m fired up,” Grizzard said. “The foundation is already here. We didn’t come just to make the playoffs and lose a home game—we’re pushing to take the next step and bring a championship back to Tampa. I’m excited to be here and to lead this unit forward.”
